The mountain side was littered with the corpses of dead Lemmings (Lemmus lemmus). Most of the Lemmings from 2001s explosion seem to have perished during the spring of 2002.

Reindeer at Flatruet
29 July 2002.
Sunny weather, some clouds, very windy.
Drove by car to Flatruet, only to find the place crowded by turists. Made a short stop on the way back, south of Mittådalen. Spotted Reed Bunting (Emberiza schoeniclus) and Reindeer along the road. Crane, Redshank (Tringa totanus), Black-throated Diver (Gavia arctica) and Mallard (Anas platyrhynchos) in a small lake.
Climbed to the top of Hamrafjället (1138 m above sealevel). Beautiful view over the valley.

Cloudy. The low clouds make a trip to the mountain regions impossible. In stead a walk along the shore of Tänndalssjön: Northern Lapwing (Vanellus vanellus), Robin (Erithacus rubecula), Pallid Swift (Apus pallidus) and Black-throated Diver
The weather brightens up in the afternoon. A climb to the top of Anderssjöåfallet : Black-throated Diver and Golden Plover.

Weather: hazy in the morning, later sunny and warm.
A mountain walk to the top of Ånnfjället: about 7,5 km, from 800 to 1300 m above sealevel.
As soon as the vegetation becomes more scarse and the boulders take over, Northern Wheatear (Oenanthe oenanthe) become abundant. Suddenly a flock of 8 Rock Ptarmigan (Lagopus mutus) takes of, they must have hidden until the last moment. A lifer! Later another group of 6 Rock Ptarmigan. Hare (Lepus timidus) and Reindeer everywhere. Fastastic view from the top of the mountain.

I am so pleased with my observation of Rock Ptarmigan yesterday and the beautiful day on Ånnfjället, that I decide to drive home.
